The Problem

Our client discovered black powder (Iron Sulphide) in a gas export line between an FPSO and a land terminal.

 

The export line was the sole supplier of gas to the cities power station and was critical to the country’s economy, meaning avoidance of an unscheduled shutdown was absolutely paramount.

 

Due to the black powder being present, it was deemed necessary to inspect the line using an ILI (In-Line Inspection) pig tool to validate the integrity status of the export line.

 

Detailed design followed a successful FEED study to implement a pig launcher and receiver, tie in spools, control valves and associated equipment on the FPSO and the land terminal

The Solution

  • A full stress analysis was conducted ensuring stresses, expansions and deflections were all within the acceptable limits of the design providing integrity assurance and confidence of a safe design.
  • All procedures and specifications were developed by O3D including construction sequences, material, welding and inspection, flange, specifications
  • A Material Take Off list (MTO) was generated and provided to the client.
  • Critical path identified and implemented to allow for installation during scheduled shutdown.
  • O3D Engineers supervised the construction offshore to ensure all procedures and defined parameters were adhered to and to provide technical support where necessary.
